MS update — It’s been a while!

MS status update

This is an email I sent out to my church’s leadership team earlier today. It occurred to me that there is news here that others might want to know about.

Hi team. I just wanted to make sure you guys are aware of how things are going at this point in my recovery.

The progress I have made is amazing. Many days now I am not using my cane around the house. Other times I will take it with me into one room of the house, only to realize 30 minutes later from another room that I had left it in the last room. That’s a good sign. I was walking to the office this week and got almost half way there before I realized my cane was still home. I turned around and went to get it, because I still need it at times and never know when that will be.
I have had several days this week when my left leg was really weak. That legs continues to be a problem. Mornings are the worst. By nearly every evening I am feeling quite well.
Some of you are probably aware I will be returning back to teaching for the university in May. Really excited about that.
My MS doctor this week put me on Neurontin for the nerve pain I have been experiencing in my legs and feet. I haven’t started taking it because I don’t want to take another pill and I have been able to tolerate the discomfort most of the time. It’s much better than it was a few weeks ago.
Currently my plan is to work “normal” hours at the office next week, and I am optimistic that I’ll be able to do this. With this optimism comes a sense that I can reasonably comfortably make plans for Wildwind’s future in terms of specific services, plans, and activities such as Discovery, membership, etc. Christy will be delighted to know that I’m even planning to take the garbage out on Thursday, for the first time in about ten weeks. 🙂
Peace to ya’ll —

I am a licensed counselor in Michigan. I also teach for Spring Arbor University part-time and supervise post-grads during their 3,000 hours of required work under supervision.

  1. Thats great! My MS is improving in some aspects as well. This week I got the ok to work out which helps my balance ALOT! I take Bacofen and flexeril with an emergency escape plan of tramadol. You know what is helping my nerve pain is a tens unit. Have you been offered one? Really cool, some people cant use it with MS. If you would like me to explain how it works please drop me a note. It is very encouraging to read your updates and know I am not fighting this battle alone. Take care. =)
